The sculpture I am choosing as the inspiration
for my series is Maskull Lasserre. Lasserre is a Canadian sculptor, born
in 1978. He spent the early years of his life living in South Africa,
which seems to the the inspiration for a variety of his pieces. Most of
Lasserre's works have an anatomical touch, which portray the reality and
fine, extraordinary detail of organisms, without being precisely
simple. He is said to "induce strangeness in the familiar, and provoke
uncertainty in the expected." This mysterious anecdote intrigues me to
explore the array of works by Lassarre, and attempt to understand his
motivations.
